Let's Talk About Loss

Nicomi lost her boyfriend Sam and in this very first episode of Grief Talks she shares what that was like, and how Let's Talk About Loss has helped her open up about bereavement.

For this, I met up with Nicomi before filming and we spoke about all things grief. We talked about what was important for her to share and the things that she'd rather keep offline. Having worked in TV, I found that contributors often didn't get much of a say in how they were being portrayed and what they wanted to share, despite being made vulnerable in front of the camera. My aim is to change this and make sure everyone is respected throughout the process and can be happy with the end result.

Let’s Talk About Loss is a grief charity which supports young people aged 18-35 who have lost a loved one. It brings young people together and offers a safe space to talk through the reality of losing someone close to you when you are young.

Set up by Beth French after losing her mother to cancer in 2015, she introduced the first support group in Nottingham in 2018. Over the past year Let’s Talk About Loss’ meetup groups have continued to grow, offering support to hundreds of bereaved young people, with 34 locations throughout the UK.
